Read Olivia's story

Last year, we said goodbye to Barbara Kelly, one of Stafford Long’s founding partners and a vastly respected member of our industry. Barbara sadly passed away on March 30th 2018 after four years of treatment for lung cancer that had spread to her brain.

This summer, Barbara’s daughter Olivia Castella – herself a much-loved part of the Stafford Long family – is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity. The challenge is also a fitting tribute to her mum, whose many achievements included climbing this very same peak.

We’re all hugely proud of Olivia and the challenge she’s taking on, so in memory of Barbara, we’d like to share Olivia’s Just Giving page here for anyone who wants to show their support

Transgender Awareness week is from 12th – 19th November, and aims to help raise the visibility of transgender people and gender non-conforming people. To put it into perspective, 8 out of 10 trans people in Britain have self-harmed and almost half have attempted suicide.

It’s a week for transgender people and their allies to take action by educating and advancing advocacy around the issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that transgender people face. At Stafford Long, to recognise Transgender Awareness Week, our Diversity Solutions team will be running workshops all this week for the team. It's Flashback Friday this week, and Art Director JB is sharing a piece of work from Stafford Long's past...

"Here’s a blast from the past. One of the first films we made for a global bank around eight years ago. Christened ‘Project Volta’, we created a futuristic and memorable business simulation from scratch as a way to immerse new graduates joiners in the workings of their investment bank. The film explored a fictitious deal to raise money in the capital markets, outlining the complementary role that each team played in finding the right outcome for the client. Think battery powered motor cars, EU regulations, eastern bloc manufacturers and huge opportunity in the automotive market.

Apart from being a pretty sound prediction of the emerging importance of renewable energy in transportation, the overall concept was inspired by a conversation I had in my village pub with a local rocket scientist – he was then experimenting with injecting hydrogen molecules into fuel cells at the time, which improved a combustion engine's performance considerably – as you can imagine.”

This week marks the start of this years GCSE and A-level examinations, as well as Mental Health Awareness week. The Guardian have today published this interesting article calling into question the impact of the new GCSE examination system on the mental health of 16 year olds up and down the country.
