COMPETING RASCALS, 2003, oil on canvas, 72 x 36 inches (183 x 92cm). *Bid starts at $2,500*
Competing Rascals is an Onaism/realistic acrylic on canvas story/depiction of seven young rascals in the nude by the river, blasting away urines upward into the air; to know whose urine could go higher than the other, and who wins at it.
In this art piece, the ground, trees and sky all have faced. Hence, the ground, trees, sky, river, and the toad are God’s appointed umpires.
Youthful exuberance coupled with little or nothing to do takes us back to some of the outrageous games we engaged in as boys, just for the fun of it.
The traditional motifs and forms in the painting are simply to emphasize the African aesthetics in the story with touches of symbolism and realism.
