There are two broad categories of observers of the current pump price imbroglio. Those who know that deregulation is the way forward, but are completely disenchanted with this present administration and/or the timing of deregulation, and those who don’t believe in the need for it at all. To both categories, the FG could do a better job of engagement and education.

At the Sustainablity in the Extractive Industries (SITEI) conference and unveiling of the Community Engagement Standards (CES), convener and Chief Executive of @CSR-in-Action, Bekeme Masade-Olowola, explained that the CES provides a cohesive, collaborative and operational guideline for community engagement. She said if followed religiously, the CES would forestall conflict bound incidents and reduce instances of unrest that has generally characterized the Niger Delta region.

The Chief Executive of CSR-in-Action, Bekeme Masade-Olowola, states that a national reorientation is required to enable the country to achieve the Sustainable Development goals (SDG) by 2030. Speaking on a revered panel at the 50th Unilag Alumni anniversary, she postulates that the government could do more to accelerate the process but entreated for an all-inclusive approach that extends to the youth.
