There are over 1000 directories in the United States and the list is growing rapidly. The three largest directories are Yahoo, Looksmart and the Open Directory Project (ODP). These are the three most important directories to have your website listed on. Yahoo is the king of directories and charges an annual fee of $299. It will drive the most traffic to your website. The Open Directory Project is free and won't create nearly as much traffic as Yahoo but hundreds of other directories and search engines including Google.
