Marion County Sheriff's Office
**Beware of this phone scam scenario**
You receive a voicemail from a Sheriff’s Office Deputy saying to report to the courthouse immediately or call the following number. You decide to call the number and someone answers on the other line saying this, “You have reached the Marion County Sheriff’s Office located at 100 High St. Salem, OR. If this is an emergency, please hang up and dial 911. Please hold as we transfer you to an available deputy."
THIS IS A SCAM. When calling our office, you are never immediately transferred to an “Available Unit” or “Deputy”. You must specify why you are calling and what you are calling about in order to be moved forward past our reception area.
Scams multiply quickly and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office advises you to do research if you feel you come into contact with one. Research the agency’s website and verify actual agency contact information. As a reminder, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office will never phone the community in regards to warrants, subpoenas, court dates or fees.
