Welcome to Bluff's Edge Jewelry! Making jewelry has been a hobby (and slight obsession) of mine for a couple of years now. I love being a stay-at-home mom, but creating jewelry gives me a way to express my creative side, as well as hammer out my stress! Beautiful gemstones are what originally drew me to making jewelry, but I've discovered a passion for metalwork. I find it very satisfying to take a raw scrap of copper or silver and make it into something unique and beautiful, often just by using a hammer and some fire. In my jewelry you will find a combination of rustic copper, shiny silver, and natural semi-precious gemstones. I am excited to share this hobby of mine with you. Every piece I put on this site is for sale, unless I specifically say otherwise. As a mom of four young kids, the amount of time I can dedicate to Bluff's Edge depends greatly on the moods of my children! I may not have a lot of jewelry for sale, but I can promise that each piece is made to the best of my abilities and with the utmost care. I have high standards, and I guarantee my work completely. Please contact me immediately if there's any aspect of your jewelry that you are unhappy about, and I will do my best to make it right! Payment:

A few pieces in various stages of doneness on my bench, waiting patiently for my return. They will have to wait one more week though, as we are off on another adventure! 🚗

We are heading to Yellowstone National Park and I’m so excited for the kids to see it...the extraordinary beauty and incredible phenomenon of our earth. I vividly remember the first time I saw Old Faithful as a kid, and the pure awe and joy I felt in my soul. I’m looking forward to experiencing that again as an adult, but this time I get the added bonus of seeing it on my children’s faces as well. 🤩

So sayonara again my little wheaties, I’ll see you soon! And get ready, because then it will be on like Donkey Kong. I’ve got a show in September to get ready for!! 💪🔥

Oh, and I gotta ask real quick... Have you been to #yellowstonenationalpark before? What was your favorite spot?

I am so, SO very excited! 🥳 Why, you might ask? Well...TWO things.

First off, because I am totally and utterly in love with this new wheat cuff I finally finished. I think it’s one of my very favorite things that I’ve ever made. ❤️ One of those times when the stars aligned and the finished piece came out even better than what I envisioned. I just makes me so darn happy when that happens!

And the second fun piece of news...I’ve been invited to be an artist for the Williston Art and Wine Walk! 🍷 Which means that on September 10th you’ll find me hanging out with Dana Johnson at Little Muddy Gifts with a glass of wine and an all-new collection of jewelry. 🤩

Which ALSO means that if you want to shop for this wheat cuff (or any of the new stuff I’ll be working on for the next month) you’d better grab your tickets for the Williston Downtowners Association Art and Wine Walk!

>>> This cuff is a one of a kind piece, completely fabricated by hand from sterling silver (not cast.)

I’ve been pretty quiet here these days...studio time has been nearly nonexistent. But real life in the summer with four kids is most definitely NOT quiet! Can you relate?

And the last few days have been spent building an addition for our chicken coop with the help of my awesome mother-in-law. Gotta make more room for my new chickens! 🐣🐓

With no new work to share, I thought I’d pop in a photo from early last year when I framed up these beautiful local Montana agates. I haven’t worked with these stones for awhile now, and I think maybe it’s time.

So let me know...are you a fan of Montana agate? ❤️

My dad is a farmer, as were both of my grandfathers and their fathers before them. Making a living from the land runs deep in my family roots. 🌾

As a child I loved to ride in the combine during harvest time, being lulled into the best naps of my life while watching the golden heads of wheat race through the header.

Growing up on a farm gave me unique skill set...well, unique only in the broad strokes of the world. In rural ND, they were the same lessons all of my friends were getting.

My dad taught me how to saddle my horse, brand calves, and drive a stick shift pickup. When my older brothers went off to college I became his field hand. I learned to drive a tractor and summer fallow a field. And in the heat of late summer I got the best (and sometimes most nerve wracking) responsibility of running the combine during harvest time. Watching the header eat through those waves of golden grain is still one of the most mesmerizing sights I know.

I made this wheat money clip with his initials on the back for my dad for Father’s Day. 🌾 Wheat will always give me the feeling of “home” in my farm girl’s heart, but I think that feeling has its deepest roots in the lessons I learned from my dad.

Happy Father’s Day to all of you hardworking and hard playing guys out there!!

This year, I wanted to do something special for my forever guy and the best dad my kids could’ve asked for. He’s an avid outdoorsman and hunter, so I made up a truck visor clip with a little prayer on the back.

I created the silver antler by fusing scraps of silver, then carving it into shape. I honestly didn’t know if I’d be able to do it (figured I’d maybe end up with a blobby stick 😬) so imagine my shock when it came out looking pretty good! 😂 Swipe through for some process pics.

When you think of “home”, what comes to mind?

For me, home is the prairie of western North Dakota. It is the fields of wheat waving in the never ending wind 🌾, and the purple crocuses popping up in spring amidst the song of the meadowlark. The rolling hills of grass and the rugged bluffs of the river bottoms. It is the wide open horizons of summer thunderstorms⚡️and painted sunsets. 🌅 It is the heart and the grit and the kindness of the people who call the Midwest “home”. ❤️

Friends, I’d really love to know...where is home for you? What do thoughts of home bring up in your heart?

(This little silver ND with a hand-sawn “home” is part of a custom piece I’m currently creating. Stay tuned, it’s going to be good!)

After way too much time away, I’m finally back in one of my favorite places today working on one of my favorite things. 🌾

I will always be grateful for the week I spent learning from the extraordinary @ringgoldnicole . She taught us how to make all kinds of cool botanicals, and reminded us often that f***ups are actually just happy accidents. 😉 But for this farm girl, the day she taught us to fabricate wheat was the best day of all!!

Folks, if you ever get a chance to attend a workshop with Nicole don’t think twice! And I even think she’s now ventured into the world of video tutorials (since Covid likes to ruin all the fun stuff like in-person classes.) She is a phenomenal artist and a teacher with a heart of gold, who I’m now honored to call a friend. 💛

Today I will struggle to find my words. My thoughts are not weighty or profound, and I’m under no illusions that they matter to anyone but me, but I felt the need to turn them into words.
.
I have been silent in this space for a few days. Do not mistake that silence...it is the silence of a heavy and confused heart. My heart hurts for the violence and ignorance that is being spewed across my screen, in places near and far. And my entire soul worries for the future.
.
It would be easy to feel helpless these days, to question how to move forward in the wake of worldwide pandemic confusion and nationwide conflict. After all, what can I do? What is my part in all of this? I know there are many things I can do, many torches I could choose to carry. And I admire the way many of my fellow artists have picked up their torches. We ALL have a responsibility to make this world a better place.
.
But right now, at this very moment, I’m on summer vacation with my family at the grandparents house. And even though there is much unease in my heart, I know that this time and place calls for joy and gratitude.
.
So today I will choose to do my part to make the world a better place by being a good mom. I will field my children’s questions about racism and injustice over our root beer floats. I will continue to emphasize the importance of treating ALL people with respect during our bedtime snuggles. I truly believe that one of the BIGGEST impacts I can make on our future today is by working to mold four loving and compassionate humans that will go out into the world and do good and amazing things. 💗
.
We are all flowers on the same tree, individuals working together for the greater good. As Mother Teresa said, “Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”
.
That, above all, is what I want my children to learn and to carry into their futures. And that is how I will choose to do my part today. 💜

You know what I’ve learned about myself over the past year? I really, really like a good challenge. Well that, and I have a bit of Maker’s ADD...which is a thing I just made up that really only means I can’t stop myself from jumping around between different projects and styles and techniques.

Maybe the two are tied together? Instead of sticking with one technique and doing it over and over to master it, I just move on to the next good challenge, hopefully adding a bunch of different skills to my toolbox as I go. Student of many things, master of none...maybe that’s my niche. 🤣

So when I was approached to make a custom money clip with this super-cool logo with tiny details, I said hey, why not?! What could possibly go wrong as I tested my sawing skills on these little bitty antlers? 🥴

Thankfully, it all worked out and I’m really pleased with it! And the best part, my client and her husband are too! ✌️

Swing back to my last post to see some closeups of this “Courage” necklace (including the surprise on the back) and the story behind its making!

The lovely warmth of this Maligano Jasper, the buttery smooth chain, the message of courage it contains...I almost don’t want to take this one off. 😉

COURAGE...what an extraordinary thing! It is defined as STRENGTH and ABILITY in the face of fear, grief, or despair. 💪 It can manifest in us as miraculous and astounding, but also as small and beautiful. And the very best thing? It is in each and every one of us, if we only reach for it. ❤️

I love this pendant (now that it is done 😂), but we had many scrappy fights along the way. If you saw my stories a couple days ago, you know that it started off as “courageous.” But then you also know that I accidentally melted the “u” 🤦‍♀️ (thank you to everyone who weighed in and gave kind words of encouragement!) So instead of starting over, I figured I’d better just pull myself up by my bootstraps - or rather, find my courage 😉 - and do my best to pivot and salvage all of the work I’d already put into it. I think it was successful! What do you think? 😁

Mother’s Day has come to an end in our house, the house is settled down for the night. And I find myself reflecting on these four blessings in my life. How is it that God chose and trusted ME to nurture and care for these amazing humans? Its a beautiful mystery, and all I know for sure is that I love them like crazy. ❤️

No need for bathroom “breaks” today (see my last post if you have no idea what I’m talking about! 🤣) It was a lovely day spent with my favorite people in all the world. 💗 And I’m happy to know I’ll be able to spend some time with MY mom soon as well!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there...today, tomorrow, and everyday thereafter...because the title of “Mom” never expires, and neither does its worthiness for celebration. 👏👏

> This necklace is already spoken for by another lucky gal. ☺️ But I’d love to hear what do you think...do you like these little power word necklaces?

I wanted to show you a bit of my backyard this morning. Fog rolling across the river bottoms, the song of the meadowlarks ringing through the crisp air, the golden sun peaking over the horizon...I felt like I was on top of the world, and I wanted to share the beauty of this place with you.
.
My home and studio are on the edge of the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River bottoms in ND. Often people think of North Dakota as a barren place, nothing but wind blown prairie grass and hoards of mosquitos. And while there is much truth to that, there is also a great amount of beauty and magic here. I’m so grateful to call myself a born and raised North Dakotan. This place will always be the home of my heart. ❤️

Work in progress...

This new home life of ours has caused my studio work has taken on a different form...it happens more slowly, in starts and stops. Often, it just looks like vague plans and daydreams. Sometimes those plans make it to paper and silver, and sometimes they float away with the next breath.

But that’s okay, because I truly believe that the ideas meant to come to life will stick around.

Be well, my friends. I hope you are letting the good things stick, and letting the rest just float away. ❤️

Happy Easter Monday to you all! 💗 As strange as yesterday felt...not celebrating at church, no big meal with the extended family, no hoards of children hunting for eggs...I decided to focus on the abundance in my life that I am grateful for. The joy on my kid’s faces as they found their Easter baskets. An easy morning with my husband. An extra cup of coffee with my Easter chocolates. And at the tippy top of that gratitude list are all those in this world that I love. 🥰

One love and one heart to you, my friends. May your day be filled with love and abundance. ❤️

(This necklace is NFS, it is on its way to a longtime friend of mine. ☺️)
