Early on in quarantine time, Bill Steele and his team at Mr Bill's Poultry Market took steps to continue to operate and serve their customers safely.

They have done, and continue to do, a great job with COMMUNICATING expectations and updated protocol to continue to stay in business and keep selling their excellent products. (I have been a customer for 30+ years.)

Even when products or hours needed to be limited, they have been keeping their fans updated clearly and effectively.

ALL small business need to create a safe environment.. But the COMMUNICATION, both internally to your team and externally to your clients, is ESSENTIAL for success.

We’re back! We will have reduced hours again this week. Please read our message to our customers as it has important information and a quick list of products we are making this week - see pictures for details. Again, thank you for supporting small businesses, we look forward to seeing you when it is necessary and safe for you to shop 👍 see you at the @allentownfarmersmarket @ Allentown, Pennsylvania

Visions Hair and Nail Salon

Great COMMUNICATION like this is a key marketing element to the re-invented success of small businesses. Maria DaSilva Vitorino and her team are taking steps to set protocol to protect their team and clients.

Hello Everyone!

Over the past three months, we have been working diligently to prepare and protect the health and well-being of our staff and clients.

As many of you have already heard, salons will be allowed to re-open once our area reaches the green phase.

Although we don’t have a specific opening date as of yet, we wanted to make you aware of some things we DO know in order to somewhat prepare you for our new “normal". We ask that you be patient with us as we navigate a safer way to run our salon at 50% capacity.

Salon Environment:

Upon entering, you may notice we look a little different.
• Magazines have been removed, chairs have been spaced apart, and our retail shelves will be covered.
• Because of our efforts to socially distance, we can no longer have friends or family members in our waiting area.
• We ask that you only bring what’s absolutely necessary into the salon as we can no longer accommodate purses, food or drinks at our stations.
• There will be NO waxing services until further notice.

Arriving for your appointment:

• Please “check-in” if possible, by calling the salon to let us know you’re here or by coming in to let us know that you have arrived.
• After checking in, we ask that you remain in your vehicle until your stylist or nail tech calls you to enter the salon for your appointment.
• Masks MUST be worn into the salon and remain on for the entire duration of your appointment.
o We suggest bringing 2 if you are receiving a chemical service, as we don’t have enough supply for everyone.

Guidelines for entry:

• Mask on.
• Sanitize your hands with provided sanitizers.
• Your temperature will be taken and will be asked a few questions about potential exposure, etc.
o If your temperature is above 100.4 degrees, you must reschedule after 14 days.
• You will be directed straight to the shampoo area or your stylist or nail tech's chair.
• No guests may accompany a client.

After your service:

• We encourage you to pay and schedule your next ONE appointment during your service, or schedule by calling in.
• We ask that you do not crowd the desk area.
o The stylists and nail techs will be operating by appointment only and accepting one client at a time.
o There will be 15-30 minutes in between clients for proper sanitizing and disinfection of stations.

Payment changes:

• Please bring exact change for tips as we are trying to handle cash as little as possible.
• For the time being, we will not be allowing tips on checks.
• We are now accepting Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.

Due to incurring many more costs for the health and safety of our clients (sanitizing, disinfecting, etc.), there will be a 10% increase for all services to help us remain a safe place for you and our staff.

Hours of operation will vary due to working at 50% capacity.

We want you to know that despite what seems to be an odd new environment, we will do our very best to accommodate you and we appreciate your continued support as we look forward to welcoming back our wonderful clients to Visions.

Thank You,
The Visions Team

Loeffler-Pitt Dental Associates- COVID-19 Response

From a marketing and public relations perspective, this dental office is doing the right thing. They have developed a protocol to protect their staff and patients, are training their team, and are CLEARLY COMMUNICATING to their patient community as to the preparation and steps everyone will be taking to insure a safe experience.

All small businesses of every kind (medical/dental, salons, restaurants, shops, etc) should develop and communicate a well-thought-out procedure.

5 Powerful Entrepreneurship Lessons From Henry Ford

A discussion on strength, notoriety, and failures...

"I'm not suggesting that anyone steal credit from others; that would be unethical. But what I am suggesting is that you go at your work with such a strong spirit of passion and excellence that the kind of work you do becomes an inextricable part of the market you serve."

Henry Ford made the automobile affordable to the American middle class and turned it into an international symbol of freedom. This is why, oftentimes, he gets credited for inventing it even though he didn't. With this in mind, here are five entrepreneurship lessons we all can learn from Henry Ford.

How to Get (and Leverage) Glowing Testimonials

(This is one of the topics that I cover each year on the last of five sessions of my Marketing Academy. )

The message is essentially, what OTHER people say about you (your business, products, services) is far more important that what YOU say about your business.

(I hate the image that comes up with this article. But it sure does catch your eye.)

Please read the article in full because it gives a lot of important details. (You can tell that it is an old article because they mention MySpace. LOL!)

In order to GET great referrals, it is important for you to make a habit of GIVING good referrals.

"Testimonials work because they nurture trust. Potential clients know that you're only going to say positive things about your products and services. They want to be convinced by hearing from someone who has actually tried them. Potential clients have no reason to trust you. But they do trust their peers. This is "social proof" at work."

Word of mouth works! A potential client hears rave reviews about your products and services from someone they trust. The advertising is believable and motivating. And it doesn't cost you anything -...

Rita Guthrie - Owner | Consultant - Open Door Public Relations | LinkedIn

On your LinkedIn page, there is a difference between "Skills & Endorsements" and "Recommendations."
When we talk about the significance of testimonials, remember that it is far more valuable for someone else to say you are fabulous (and WHY) than it is for your toot your own horn.
Feel free to peruse my LinkedIn page to see the difference. There is so much more value in the personally written "Recommendations." Some of mine are good. Some are FANTASTIC!
Your recommendations do not need to be long, but they do need to be specific.

You can accumulate LinkedIn recommendations over time. Please note that they don't have to come from paying customers. But they DO have to be honest about the quality advice you've offered or work you've done for others. It can also be about a valuable connection that you have provided, as long as the content is somehow relevant to your business or profession.

Another great tip from Anne Corley Baum.
It's not just who you know, but who knows YOU!

Do you have progressive ideas to increase your visibility?
(BTW- That's been my business tag line for ten years.😉)

#Success is based on who you know, but even more importantly on who knows YOU. If you introduce yourself regularly, your #network will grow, along with your reputation.

How are you making new #connections during this time of #quarantine?

This fun and quirky idea from nationally recognized photographer, and Fuji Film spokesperson, Alison Conklin isn't just about pets or photography. It's about bringing together a family for daily laughs and creativity by working on an oddball project that they devised instead of just counting the days of quarantine.

Facilitated by Jeff and Marta Countess of Countess Communications, they have here a video that does the three things that ALL small businesses should do in their marketing:
Entertain - these daily photos, and this video, crack me up
Engage - many of us have shared this video because it is fun
Educate - gives us all perspective on both family engagement and the psychological break of having a daily fun mission when sequestered, and promotes three small businesses in the process.

If isolation is driving you nuts, great creative. That's exactly what our friends Alison and Geoff did. When they let you play, too...it's even more fun!

Coronavirus marketing strategy checklist for small businesses

"it’s more important than ever not to ignore your social media. Keep your posts honest and let your customers know exactly what’s happening. Keep providing them with resources they might expect from you."

Marketers navigating how to handle coronavirus are in uncharted waters. Here is a coronavirus marketing checklist to help your business chart a course.

My tag line is: “progressive ideas to increase your visibility.” Why? Because I work with each individual person/business to help you achieve your MARKETING goals. There is no single formula that works for every business. When I prepare to work with a new client, the first thing I do is review ALL of your existing marketing materials (website, brochure, FB, LinkedIn, videos, business card, etc. – sometimes hours of work) before our first meeting. I am viewing this stuff from OUTSIDE your field as if I was your next customer. This unique perspective allows me to best advise you on the clarity and effectiveness of your marketing message and brand consistency. I also look at the way you are managing your public image & relations. (For example: Everything you say, do, and post on FB impacts your business image!)

After that review, I can offer you a valuable plan to move forward to increase your visibility in the marketplace by taking advantage of opportunities that often are right in front of your nose. I reflect back to you what others are seeing.

Just in the past 10 days, I began working with 3 new & diverse clients: A gym, a dance studio, & a doctor. They all came to me with 3 completely different challenges, & I won’t even tell you which one had which inquiry: 1) How do we get lots of new people to come into our space with one single event? 2) I just bought space on a bill board for a month, but what should it say? 3) How do we get the message across to the public that what we offer is unlike most others in our industry?

I LOVE my work! I LOVE the challenges of helping each new client! I GET RESULTS!
