True confession: I love high school football. My own high school team was not great. But after having a football player living in my house I learned to love it. The energy of the students & players, the community out to support them. And, THE MARCHING BAND!!
What do you secretly love?
Yesterday I had the choice of turning right, and taking the quick & easy way home, or turn left and take the long & windy way home. The most rewarding things are rarely found going the easy way. I’ve dreamt of a fall drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and yesterday, I finally made it happen! It was a perfect end to the week of planning a bunch of left turns for Paperfish. #virginiaisforlovers❤️ #blueridgeparkway #turnleft

Ever hear of "Mundane Halloween"? Loving the odd creativity of these costumes.
In 2014, a subculture emerged in Japan called jimi halloween (地味ハロウィン), or “mundane Halloween.” It was started by a group of adults at Daily Portal Z who “kind of wanted to participate in the festivities of Halloween, but were too embarrassed to go all out in witch or zombie cost...
Last night I had the honor of attending the book launch of Kim Fredrich! Book cover by Paperfish, brilliance by Kim! (Photo credit to Deborah Ager who I was able to meet in person last night!) All good stuff!

“Isn’t life a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?” - Andy Warhol. From my Warhol pencil set. It’s so true. This image repeats itself as often as the weather & light allow to me work outside. #morning #workfromhome #warhol
Congratulations to my amazing client Passero! He was on "Check Please", a classic show that has been on WTTW for as long as I can remember.
Chef Matt is the real deal, and an amazing dude. Take a look! LOVE ❤️❤️❤️ this place. I only wish it weren't 750+ miles away! Passero is MUST if you are anywhere near Arlington Heights. When you go, say "hi" to Matt for me.
This small and modern spot serves up creative Chicago-Italian fare, creative cocktails and seasonal specialties. It is located in the adorable downtown Arlington Heights neighborhood.
This is confidence in your brand. And I think it works. At least it left my son & I looking for Doritos in our pantry! Red & blue bags for the win. #cheesy #cool #spicy #ranch

Influencers have changed marketing forever – but fake followers and fraudulent posts that appear to be sponsored but are not are costing businesses big dollars.
Losses due to fraudulent influencer marketing reached $1.3 billion this year and are on the rise.
Maybe I’m on a “I made that logo tour”? My favorite restaurant in Arlington Heights, owned by one of my favorite clients of all time. @passeroah #brunch #arlingtonheights
Just passed a logo I designed many years ago! This location didn’t exist then. Fun to see. @gails_carriage_place
Go to Chicago. Be a tourist. See this beautiful city, walk 20,000 steps & earn yourself a slice of heaven. If you don’t get deep dish when you are in town, you are just wasting your calories!
(Your trip should also include Italian beef & a Chicago style dog. Yes, beef, beef & cheese. Welcome to the Midwest.)

So much detail went into each one of these spaces. From the color of the green paint on a store front, to the carefully arranged toy mice that made me want to take them all home.
Signs, displays, paint colors — they all set a mood for your customers. That’s your brand: the feeling they get when they think of you. All of these places got it right.

There are entire Instagram accounts dedicated to pictures of doors. And I can see why. Doors are works of art in their own right. Realtors will tell you to paint your front door to add a pop of color or a focal point, for curb appeal. Often a door can hide a bit of mystery— what is behind there? Some of these photos are more entry ways than doors, I realize, but their form caught my eye. And, what Mom wouldn’t want a door to a place that is Orderly?

Sometimes it is the little things that catch your eye. I can’t stop looking at the Red Cross from Eastern State Penn. I love that my daughter pointed out the squirrels in the rafters up on Mont Royal in Montreal. My little guy insisted I take a photo of the giant compass at Independence Hall. It’s the little things, just like the little moments in life you remember the most.

I love different textures. How light plays off of stone, peeling paint. I want to frame every one of these.

I love seeing how people use art to communicate. It may not seem like art to everyone, but as someone who spends endless hours designing, trying to find the most direct form of communication solution for signs, logos, even PowerPoint decks, I have a great appreciation for the time & thought that goes into signs.
These signs range from nostalgic to utilitarian, and all have me the information — and sometimes even mood — I was looking for at that spot.

When you travel, what kind of pictures do you take? I take lots, like 1,800 pictures in 9 days. Many are of my kids, but I realized on this last trip that I also take them in a series — and it’s not until the end of the trip that I realized I have several categories of photos. So I thought I would share how I was looking at the world on my latest trip. Apparently by theme.

The 2019 list of Best Nonprofits to Work For is out and USTA Mid-Atlantic Section has secured a spot in its first year of participating in the 11th annual national study. USTA Mid-Atlantic ranked 21 overall of the top 50 organizations to make the list and is one of just 18 small organizations (15 to...
I was in YouTube for a client today, and came across this. So many feelings about this. But my initial thought? That hair!! What you may not know is that minutes before this was filmed, by the great Marty Shoup, Abby Moreau was smoothing down my hair because, even though we had just met, she felt bad for me. I wiped out on the sidewalk, skinned both my hands, was covered in dirt and, it was more than a bit windy. Oh, the memories.

Happy April Fool's Day!
A day celebrated with paper fish? We are IN!
In France (and Italy, too I'm told by owner of Cucinamore, LLC - Italian Cooking Parties, Daniela Moro Williams), children (and probably an adult or two) place a paper fish on the back of an unsuspecting person and shout ‘poisson d’Avril’ when the paper fish is discovered.
The origins of this tradition are up for debate. One theory stems from 1562 when Pope Gregory changed the Julian calendar, with a New Year start on April 1st, to the present day Gregorian calendar. Those who weren't pleased called the adaptors the Poisson d’Avril (April fish) and played tricks on them.
Others say it's celebrating the end of Lent, or the closing of the sign of Pieces.
Whatever the origin, if you feel so inclined today, print a fish and call Poisson d'Avril. If nothing else, it's an excuse to claim today as your new year & revisit those 2019 goals that may have slipped!
