Operating as usual
Just finished a logo design for a new client of mine. Shown are the initial ideas, and then the final design. The client is based in Montana, but will be living in South Carolina for the year, so they wanted a logo that had a South Carolina low country feel (South Carolina Great Oak) but also included the Montana aspect to it. This one was a fun project!
Check out these beautiful wedding invitations I created for a friend recently. When I ran into a snag with my usual envelope supplier because of COVID restrictions, I stumbled upon #paperandmore, who was still accepting and shipping orders. I highly recommend them! Their printing is high quality and their communication was spot on. They even tracked down and special ordered the exact color yellow envelopes that I needed for this invite. 🙌❤️🥰
I don’t typically get requests for label design, but when I do, I get pretty excited. 😊 The client (and old friend) Blackbird Meadery in Vandalia Ohio needed a large array of mead labels for his new products. To make each flavor stand apart when viewed together, I chose colors that reflected the flavor of each mead. The client is very happy! Thanks for asking me to help Dave!
In continuation from my original post here , I've transcribed more of Great Great Grandmom's postcards from Germany. This Postcard collection is from 3 separate people, which I am assuming are the same in relation. The first few are from a Robert Weiss and Katchen and 6 children in Meiderich, Duisburg Germany. The last 2 are from a Robert and Anna and children, and also one from a niece Elizabeth. [ 1,063 more word ] https://lostvaudeville.wordpress.com/2020/01/30/postcards-from-germany-part-3/

Today is small business Saturday. It’s a day we look to all those small businesses and thank them for their business or we buy something from them to help support them.
On this day I’d especially like to thank everyone that has built my business to where it stands today. My clients, friends, colleagues, other graphic designers and the printers I use to produce my clients designs. To my small “cowbell group” of fellow graphic designers (Taughnee, Cris, Barbara, Jake) who took me under their wing and allowed me to bounce my novice questions and ideas off of them without any negative opinions. To the designers (Jess, Dani and Jennifer) who worked under my business’s name when I got so busy with jobs, that I couldn’t handle it all on my own anymore. To my very first clients (Home Care Sales, Card By Design, King of the Road, Always There Home Care, Matt Jolley, Luke Bradshaw, Kooler Ice and Brandon Smith) who believed in me as a new small business who was still learning her trade. They stuck with me, and are still with me today 13 years later. But most especially, I’d like to thank my husband, who told me it was ok not to look for another job when I lost my secretary job in Ohio. He supported me while I built my business from scratch- we had to suffer the consequences with less money coming in, but It all paid off with hard work.
With all that said- if you know someone who owns a small business- support them. Buy from them or recommend them. Help them out if you know their trade. Give them suggestions or pointers. They’ll appreciate it! Because small businesses aren’t built by one person alone- their built by the other people holding them up.
Part of the new campaign for VisitOwensboro.com - Bourbon, Bluegrass and Barbecue. Featured here (left) is their new rack card and (right) a full page advertisement.
For the very first time in my Graphic Design career, I was asked to design a United States Airforce logo & coin for my husband's organization. This was an un-paid competition among all of the other offices. The winner will be announced in the next few weeks! Crossing my fingers that one of these babies gets chosen!

When I’m not busy designing, I’m blogging about lost Vaudevillians and my GG Aunt’s connection to them. Here’s the latest post about Joseph Hart’s Rain Dears company, for whom my aunt designed the wardrobes for.
My great aunt Blanche Townsend worked as a dressmaker for the Rain-Dears Co. in the early 1900’s till about 1913/1914. While organizing her cards, I discovered that she traveled with them ma…

News Flash: I was too busy designing everyone else's corporate identity, that I neglected my own company's website! It was about time to bring it into the 2018's.
Here’s a recent t-shirt we designed for the Owensboro, KY convention & visitors bureau. Pretty much sums up Kentucky. ❤️
Like BlueGrass? I was lucky enough to be asked to design this brochure and schedule for the ROMP Bluegrass festival in Owensboro, KY. Featured artists are Alison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs, Sam Bush and many more. Have fun guys! If I didn't live so far away I would attend!
Ever heard of a “mini brochure”? Their becoming popular, especially for trade shows! Here’s one I designed for a client of mine, which Printing For Less custom printed for us! I highly recommend these small brochures if you want something different to showcase your business!
Always feels good to see the final product of my client's designs. Here are 3 trade-show displays I worked on these past 3 weeks. We also designed 3 rack cards as well for this trade-show event. Good luck Millennium at your event today!

Dilly Chili! My client Worthington Industries asked for me to design a t-shirt for this year's Chili Cook-off which benefits the American Cancer Society. This year they chose the team name "Dilly Chili" (mimicking the Budweiser commercials for Dilly Dilly) Here are 2 ideas that I presented them. What a fun team name!!
Just received the printed poster and postcard we designed for "Paws Vegas"! I designed the logo and marketing collateral for this event, such a fun job!!
Graphic Design tip of the week:
Designers should know adobe shortcuts. Not only does it cut down the designer's time working, but it also is more cost effective for the client. These shortcuts take time to memorize, but very well worth it in the end. My advice: Start with the ones you would use the most, like "zoom in and out", "temporary hand tool" or "save as". All of the others will follow easily.
Learn the keyboard shortcuts available in InDesign to help you work quickly, without using the mouse.
Finished up an ad campaign this week for Clermont County Ohio Convention and Visitors Center! These ads will appear in the Ohio Fairgrounds yearly advertising booklet. Clermont County is known for their many parks and recreation activities, which is something they wanted to highlight in their advertising. I think we did a good job!
A local cafe asked me to redraw their logo for them - as they didn't have their original files anymore. I asked them if they were interested in seeing some new ideas at a low price. Here are a few. Stray Cat Café helps support the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation which rescues over a thousand abandoned dogs and cats each year. All of the cats featured in framed photographs on a wall in their restaurant are rescued cats and some are still available for adoption. Their Café is also unique, in that every wall is also adorned with paintings of cats done by a local artist! What a fun and inspirational concept for a restaurant!!
Some fun logo ideas for a really unique company! (designed by myself and Jessica Lee!) This project is for a bike/coffee shop. The owner will custom fix your bike while you enjoy some freshly roasted coffee. The company's name is based off his dog (a dachshund) who has one blue eye.
A little sneak peak at a visitors guide that I'm creating for Clermont Country Ohio. We're pretty excited about this design! The final guide book will include restaurants, recreation, shopping, camping and hotels to visit while staying in Clermont County Ohio.
Thought I'd share some wedding invitation ideas for my cousin-in-law's up coming wedding! I'm pretty happy with the way these turned out. :)

I Love what I do! And I believe it shows in my client’s work everyday. My business all started back in 2006, when I set out on a mission to create a design company that would move with me throughout the years, from state to state.
My husband was in the Air Force, and our first base moved us to Ohio. I was finding it hard to land a job at a design firm because even though companies liked my portfolio, they were hesitant on hiring someone who would have to leave in 3 years for another Air Force base. And so, I gave in and got a job not in my career field and moved on with my life. BUT, I really missed designing! So, I started to take on small jobs here and there freelancing for small businesses. Sometimes I didn’t even charge for the design because I just missed designing so much that doing the design was enough for me. Eventually, I’d charge the small businesses what was within their budget for the job, and from there I realized that I was creating a client base. And so my business was born.
I started this company not really thinking about the money, but I focused more on the purpose. DESIGN and PEOPLE.
In the first year, I found my clientele consisting of Mom and Pop shops. These folks wanted designers like me – a small business – who is responsive, honest, reputable and can design on their budget. To this day, I still reach out to the small businesses who need design help because THEY are the reason I made it as a company. Their business and what they stand for will always be the core foundation of my company.
