COVID-19 came, and nothing about the world was the same. So, we knew business (or advertising) as usual wasn’t going to fly.

We’d evaluated media placements, made the necessary shifts and recommended over-arching messaging adjustments for Lennox, and they had an appetite for a new TV spot. Like many brands, we found ourselves with little time and a tall order: get a message out there that didn’t camouflage itself into the void of “uncertain times.”

Step one? Avoid the phrase “uncertain times” at all costs.

Step two? Don’t talk about HVAC or perfect air. At all.

Step three? Find that simple truth that gets us all to step back and take stock of the best thing to come out of this pandemic.

That was the jumping off point for a new spot. Utilize Lennox’ role in the home to do the unexpected. Do away with the notion of uncertainty and celebrate the inarguable certainty that these times are special.

Black Friday seems a long time ago. And to be honest, this was something we were going to share months ago, but a little pandemic got in the way and took our eyes off the blog content ball. That said, sharing good client news is always something we like to do, now probably more than ever.

This was our first Black Friday program for Baxter Auto, and spoiler alert - we crushed it. Impressions were up 409% and overall leads grew by 20% year over year. More importantly, new car sales saw a 15% YOY uptick and used car sales jumped 28% versus the previous year.

The past week or so has certainly been unlike any other. Last Monday, Firehouse closed our offices so that our folks could safely work from home. The balance of the week was spent essentially in “triage” mode trying to coordinate and consult with our clients and each other on how best to navigate the days ahead. We’re incredibly proud and appreciative of the patience, positive attitude and work ethic displayed by every Firehouser. It’s not easy, but providing a steady hand and voice of calm for our clients is exactly what’s needed.

What is also needed is creative thinking and leadership.

This is where the next few weeks come in as we begin implementing ideas coming out of our discussions and a proactive process to help our clients and our community stay on top and out front.

Determining the right parental leave policy can present a challenging balancing act. Most agencies offer paid maternity leave of at least six weeks and often some sort of paternity leave as well. Last year we were given the opportunity to work with Okay to Say in their mission to end the stigma surrounding mental health. Okay to Say was ready to launch a new phase of their campaign, which was centered around building a supportive community around those struggling with mental health issues. We created the campaign "Speak Up. Share Hope,” which speaks to two unique audiences: those struggling with mental health issues and the family and friends of those struggling.
In order to break down the stigma and barriers to receiving help, we realized as a team that we not only need to reach those struggling, but their support network. Talking about mental health doesn’t need to feel daunting or scary. We often say our agency is like a family. And we are. Except that at our house, we don’t have a sign that says “Live, laugh, love.” Our sign says “Work hard and don’t be a dick.” So we do. We debate. We challenge each other. We get up in each other’s business. Basically, we love each other enough to tell someone when they’ve gotten it wrong.

This year we partnered with Family Gateway for our 9th annual Make A Difference Day. Family Gateway provides stability and much needed services for children and families affected by homelessness. We spent the day assembling care kits for incoming families, cleaning and organizing their Children's Learning Center, setting up new rooms for incoming families and we created and furnished a Teen Room.

We’ve always known she’s a star, but now it’s official. Firehouse’s Director of Project and Resource Management, Megan Ward, was honored at AAF Dallas’ 2019 Shining Stars Gala on May 23.

Ask anyone here and you’ll hear Megan belongs on that list. She not only built and leads our Project Management department, but she also oversees creative resources, works with a team to craft agency compensation agreements, and plays a key role in stewarding the agency culture.
