An alternative to Google Analytics, it's not free but it offers actual privacy for your website visitors.
Plausible Analytics is not new on the scene. The two-person, EU-based team behind the company has been trying to carve its slice of the analytics pie against players like Google Analytics and WordP…
WordPress is the top solution presently for websites. It's hard to compete with the flexibility WordPress offers. One example are calendars for websites. The paid solutions have third party hosted solutions (which means not on your website) or nothing. Not a great solution for companies that have events to publish.
WordPress has passed 40% market share of all websites, up from 35.4% in January 2020, as measured by W3Techs. These numbers are derived from the Alexa top 10 million websites, along with the Tranco…

AMP stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages. It's a controversial topic, busy publishing sites benefitted the most from the practice. But overall, web builders do not need help with making sites faster, this can be accomplished directly plus responsive design is about making sure it works for mobile. This was never about making sites faster. I believe it was a grab to dominate the marketplace. It also didn't adopt W3C web standards for code, had to use their servers which doesn't make any sense. An expense for clients I didn't feel comfortable recommending.
AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages), an open source initiative that originated with Google, is coming under greater scrutiny at the tail end of 2020, as the company is facing a rash of antitrust lawsuit…
Older sites may encounter some issues with WordPress 5.5 and older plugins using the old JQuery. It also appears many plugin developers simply weren't ready so updates are breaking sites. Folks, wait a bit, I know it's hard to see a lot of updates, but just because an update is available doesn't mean it's a safe update. Always backup prior to major updates like this one.
Two issues related to WordPress 5.5 are possibly affecting thousands of websites. This is how to fix them.
Astra Theme Suspension
Hey all - unfortunately, due to affiliate links, the Astra theme has been suspended by WordPress for 5 weeks. The theme is available though on GitHub. I hope that helps those using the theme.
WordPress suspended the Astra theme for five weeks for violating prohibitions on affiliate links. Theme publishers denied that the theme added affiliate links.
WordPress 5.5 is projected to come out August 11. This is a major feature update so a word to the wise - don't click the update button until you check your plugins, theme are compatible. Also best to wait at least a week or two in case there are any "emergency" bug fixes.

Are things kind of quiet business wise? This is a great time to go look at your website and notate anything you want to change, update or get rid of. The quiet won't last and soon you will be over the top busy. If you need some tips on what to look for, comment below.
Chrome - Important
If you are a Chrome user or just have it installed, be sure to bring it up and update the browser. A zero day exploit was discovered, that means it's considered pretty significant to update right away.
To update - just go to the 3 vertical dots on the upper right in Chrome, it should show a message to update.
To read more about it, here is an article.
These days, unless you are using subdomains, there is no reason to include "www" in your marketing materials when mentioning your business domain. If you want to include it, make sure your website actually uses it but be aware, many think it is old school to use it. By now, most know what a .com, etc., refers to a URL link :).

Make sure your text colors have enough contrast that people can read it easily. Light grey colors are a big trend but unfortunately, isn't readable for most people against a white background. A medium grey would probably work best. #webdesigntip
Accessibility for websites is not a new concept. Some items can be as simple as readable sized text, good contrast colors between text and background, ability to tab key.
In what is seen as a win for accessibility advocates, the U.S. Supreme Court denied Domino’s petition to appeal a lower-court decision on whether the pizza chain’s website and mobile ap…
New WordPress release, several security and bug fixes. On any update, be sure to do a backup of your website first. Also, wait a few days just in case there is an "emergency" update but usually these smaller releases are fine. A good rule of thumb, just because an update is available doesn't mean you should do it right away. Software developers are not all equal so don't treat all software equally. Wait to find out if any "fallout" from the folks who are less patient. :)
