Always be wary of liquid damage!

No matter how well it was cleaned and how long ago it was, liquid damage can still affect your computer. The only real fix is to replace every affected part, but this is usually expensive to do.

As such, the best fix is prevention. Don't spill!

When it comes to on-site service, there are some repairs we do not recommend doing.

One of the main ones is data-related work. While it could be done, data takes a long time to go through even for basic transfers.

Instead, we recommend bringing in your computer to our shops.

We hope everyone is prepped for the next week!
It looks like it's going to get pretty chilly.

This week, we want to go over doing research.
It's always good to do as much research as you can before you undertake a task. Afterwards, double-checking everything before you start never hurts.

For example, when building a custom computer, take the time to look over the motherboard's manual. While they are usually similar, some motherboards may have different arrangements or slots. Before you even build a computer, you also want to check compatibility and reviews of each part.

A little research can save you a lot of headache in the long run, so do it!

Even when you have been doing something for years, take the time to look over your work. A seasoned veteran can still make mistakes. Taking a moment to slow down may just save you weeks of work!

Do you have a story of when you didn't do your research?
Let us know! It may help someone from making the same mistake.

We mentioned it in our newsletter, but we will most likely be closing down the Springfield store sometime in February.

We will post an update here when that is fully confirmed.

The Fairfax location will remain open, though, so feel free to stop by with your computer needs.

Thank you for the patience of everyone in DC!

Due to the inauguration, many streets in and around DC are closed or busy. It makes it difficult for our technicians to service that area, unfortunately.

We will likely be able to head into DC again starting on the weekend, though!

Please stay safe!

All we can really do right now is encourage everyone to wear a mask, practice good sanitation, and stay home when they feel sick.

It's an unfortunate reality of the world we live in right now, but we have to persevere.

Please do your part in stopping the spread. If everyone takes the pandemic seriously, we may actually be able to recover.

For those who have already been doing their part, thank you!
We sincerely appreciate you and wish you the best.

We hope everyone is staying safe today!

GeekABC has been keeping up with safety precautions and sanitation procedures to ensure a clean workplace in this ongoing pandemic.

As always, please wear a mask and wash your hands!

GeekABC resolves to include more computer care related posts this year.

We hope this will help our followers take better care of their systems, beyond basics like "not dropping it down a flight of stairs".

If there's computer-related content you would like to see, let us know!

We sincerely hope everyone is staying safe.

As we look towards the future, we also have to take a look at the past. No one is perfect, but that's why we have the capability to learn and grow.

This applies to many aspects of life, like work or socializing. When you make a mistake, you have to first understand why it happened and acknowledge it. Then you apologize by taking action to correct it.

We all need to work together in order to make this world a better place to live in. Not just for us, but for those who come after as well.

We wish you the best.

This year, GeekABC resolves to improve our Fairfax location for our technicians by adding a secondary workstation.

We plan to use this workstation to refurbish computers, which we can then offer as an option to you.

Hopefully, we can start offering more of them soon!

We're back to regular hours this week!

That means Springfield is open MWF from 10AM - 7PM and Fairfax is open Monday to Friday from 9AM - 8PM and Saturday from 10AM - 6PM.

As always, you can view our hours on our website at:

With a new year comes New Year Resolutions!
Have you already thought up some for yourself?

We're still thinking on some resolutions to make. It's good to have ones that are easy to measure and that require action to do. It should be something attainable, as well!

In fact, if you know SMART goals, that's what you should follow. For those who haven't heard of it, SMART stands for:

It's something to keep in mind, when creating your own resolutions. Hopefully, it will help you in creating goals you'll be able to keep!

Focus on the path ahead!

🎆 Happy New Year! 🎆

It's finally 2021! Onward to a brand new year!

Reminder that Fairfax will be closing early this Thursday for New Year's Eve!

Make sure you come in before 2PM, if you need to pick-up or drop-off.

We will also be closed in both shops on Friday this week.

Less than a week until the new year!
It's hard to believe it's almost 2021.

Where did the time go?

Maybe it's just because of how the year has been, but everything feels both so fast and so slow. It's almost like crawling at light speed to the finish line.

But 2021 is a new year with new hopes and dreams!
Let's all strive for a better future, by laying the groundwork today. After all, you can only get a mighty oak after first planting the seed.

It will take a lot of hard work and dedication to get there, but we want to believe that we can do it.

This is the last long post of the year, so see you in 2021!

🎄 Merry Christmas! 🎄

From all of us at GeekABC, we wish you a happy holiday and amazing new year. May you and yours be happy and healthy this holiday season.

Just a friendly reminder that we will be closing early this Thursday for Christmas Eve.

Fairfax will only be open from 9AM - 2PM.
Springfield is normally closed, so it won't be affected.

Keep this in mind, if you're planning to visit!

Thank you so much for all of your support!

We've received so many kind words and thanks for the help we've provided over the past few months. It puts a smile on our face to know that we're helping people.

As a small business, it really means a lot to us that you chose us for your computer needs. We try our best to provide quality support.

We hope you're having a happy holiday season.
Stay warm and safe!

Even though it quickly shifted to rain, the snow was a nice change of pace. It truly felt like winter yesterday.

It's hard to believe that next week is Christmas Eve!

We hope you're bundled up and ready!

Are you excited for the possible snow?

It felt like we just got into fall, but it all flew by so fast! It's hard to believe it's not only winter but also almost the holidays.

As the temperatures drop, it's time to get cozy under a nice warm blanket.

When it comes to computer repair, please understand that we want to double-check even the "easy" diagnostics when looking at computers.

While something may seem obvious at first, it can also be a symptom of a larger problem. That's why we try to be as thorough as possible within the time we have.

This is also why we always recommend getting the diagnostic done first. What seems like a power issue could be an entirely different faulty part. What looks like slowdown from malware could actually be a failing hard drive.

Imagine replacing the battery only to find out that it was a motherboard issue the entire time!

Like a doctor, we want to ensure our patient (aka the computer) is getting the correct treatment it needs. Unlike humans, however, a computer can't really say where it is hurting. It can give error messages, but these tend to be unhelpful at best.

We only ask for your understanding.
These diagnostics take time, but we try to get them done as soon as possible.

We've received many new computers at our shops over the past week or so. We're thankful you chose us for your computer needs, but this does mean it will take some time before we can get through everyone.

Thank you so much for your patience!

Data recovery is more intensive than it appears!

The worse for wear your HDD is, the harder the data becomes to retrieve. Scans can crash from failing HDDs and bad sectors still take time to get around.

The worse the HDD, the longer it takes - even for small amounts of data!

First weekend in December!
We're inching closer to 2021.

We hope you're able to spend time with your loved ones this holiday season, even if you can't meet them in-person.

Here are some ideas, if you can't:

Use this as an excuse to catch up with someone. They must have been doing something with their free time, right?
Maybe you'll find a new hobby or interest!

Otherwise, it may be a good time for some introspection. In the quiet solitude of winter, you can really learn a lot about yourself.

We wish you all the best!

Just a reminder that we're only human!

There was a large influx of computers coming in around Thanksgiving, so please allow us some extra time to work on your computer.

We want to make sure we're providing you accurate information for your diagnostic, which requires time!

It's now December!
Have you already finished decorating your house?

We hope that you're able to enjoy the holidays this year.
We offer warm wishes and the best of luck to you and yours.

Almost there to 2021!

Friendly reminder: find something you enjoy!

With all of the free time some of us have, it's important to have both space and a hobby. Having space gets overlooked sometimes, but sharing space with someone can get draining very quickly. It doesn't matter how good of friends you are!

As for a hobby, we're defining it as "anything that requires effort from you in order to do something that makes you happy". Yes, this is still a very loose definition. Whether you like designing birdhouses or helping people, it can fit as a hobby. The important thing here is that you feel happy and fulfilled afterwards.

After all, learning new things is just as much a hobby as playing a guitar if you enjoy it.

🦃 Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

Thank you for all of your support!
We hope to continue to serve you far into the future.

Last reminder that we're closed this Thursday!

We will have normal hours on Friday, however, if you do need to come in. Make sure to check our website for our most up-to-date hours!

This has been said time and time again, but please wear a mask if you're planning on coming in! You are required to have one on, if you want service from us.

We only bring this up because we've recently had people walk in without masks on. Regardless of your feelings towards COVID-19, wearing a mask protects the technicians who will be working on your computer.

If they get sick, no one can repair your system!

One week until Thanksgiving!

We hope everyone is staying safe, especially with the holidays right around the corner. Whether you plan on having the usual family gathering or something smaller this year, we hope you have fun!

Next week is already almost Thanksgiving!

As a heads up, we will NOT be open on Thanksgiving Day.
The day before and day after are still good, though.

Keep that in mind, if you plan on bringing your computer in!

Friendly reminder: We're a computer repair service!

Why do we bring this up?
Well, we get many calls asking if we repair phones and tablets. While we do some work outside of just computers, this does not extend to mobile devices.

Outside of computers, we offer IT support for networks and the computer-side of printer support. If it's software based, we can most likely troubleshoot it. Any hardware not for computers or routers is generally a no, though.

When in doubt, we recommend calling during our store hours.

Why are new Macbooks so expensive to repair?

If you own a newer Macbook, there's a chance that all of your parts are embedded or sautered onto the Logic Board. The screens are also not widely available yet, making them hard to find.

When in doubt, bring it in for diagnostic!
