We are proud to announce that Garrett, a senior at Alfred-Almond Central School and the Wildwood Digital Media Arts program has won first place in the recent logo design contest held by the GST BOCES STEM Resource Center of Horseheads NY.

Garrett joined Digital Media Arts because of his keen interest in a career in graphic design. In class, Garrett applies his artistic talent to a variety of design projects including creating t-shirts and hoodies for most of the CTE classes on our Wildwood Campus. He already has established a free lance business and has developed his own "brand" web site where he sells his t-shirt designs.

Upon graduation, Garrett is planning to attend college to earn a Graphic Design related degree.

Heather Stanford Photography

We are truly honored to have our DMA Alumni students give of their time and professional insight on our DMA Advisory Board. Its extremely rewarding to know that their time as DMA students contributed to their career success. Extending our thanks to Photographer Heather Stanford (Class of 2008), Graphic Designers Chelsea Kowalik (Class of 2003) and Linda Donaldson for joining us this year and providing guidance for our program and students.

I have to do a quick shout out to Gary Acker who is the Digital Media Arts instructor at the Greater Southern Tier BOCES-Wildwood campus. Last night we met for our annual Advisory Board meeting, something I have participated in for the past 4 years as an Advisor and every year I come home and I am more and more impressed with the program and the resources that are available to these students in the Southern Tier. These high school students have access to explore every specialty in the digital design world to get a feel for what they are capable of and passionate about. They have the tools to learn programs that are used in the industry everywhere, tools to learn photography, cinematography/filmmaking, music productions (yes they have an entire music/tv production room), animation, and design. They even have a 3D printer 😀 but all of that is "stuff"... the instructors and staff are the big piece here, they give the students the confidence that they can make it in the art industry and that they are capable of bigger things no matter what their background might be, I am living proof of this. No matter where you are in life as long as you stay passionate and focused you can accomplish anything that you have put your mind to. Thank you Mr. Acker for being such a positive influence in my life, I know I wasn't your most cooperative student when it came to doing any work other than photography but I like to think I turned out ok 😀

And to the people who believe you can't make a career in the art industry here is a big eye roll for you 🙄 I have met many spectacular artist in this industry and I couldn't prouder to be apart of it!

We're on our way to Nationals in Louisville KY once again this year in June. This year DMA has three junior students who won at the SkillsUSA New York State competition at the Syracuse Fairgrounds in April.

They now are on their way to represent our state at the SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference and Competition in Louisville. Madison and Regan are from Canisteo Greenwood and Alexandra is from Alfred-Almond.

We've been working hard to raise funds to cover the weeklong trip. These professional young ladies will be most appreciative of your help. You can read about their project in this GoFundMe page that they created.
