Talking the Future of Marketing with former P&G CMO Jim Stengel:
“In a crisis, brands that rise up and do the right thing come out better. Where norms fall apart and paradigms get upended, it’s a really good time to think about and accelerate your business model. To the extent you can within your business situation, it is time to keep the money going, obviously with a different voice. Pivot and adjust to be relevant now as behavior has really shifted quickly. The silos have come down and people are working much more closely together as one team. It’s a great time for marketers to be at the table now because I think how you reach out to people now is more important than ever. The CFO, CMO, CEO, HR — they’re just talking more. They have one mission and that’s to figure out what’s going on and how to be helpful.” Join the discussion “ Marketing Hall of Fame Speaks: Bringing the Future Forward.” October 29, 2020 2:30 – 4:00 PM EDT. Talking the Future of Marketing with Author Seth Godin:
“On marketing in these uncertain times… We're going to see really significant disruption in people's livelihoods and in their expectations for what happens next. Strategically, we probably should do work that matters. We should probably do work we're proud of. We should probably choose the long term over the short term, and build reputation and trust as opposed to figuring out how to manipulate some social media network to get some attention.” Join the discussion “ Marketing Hall of Fame Speaks: Bringing the Future Forward.” October 29, 2020

Talking the Future of Marketing with Adobe CMO Ann Lewnes:
“How will the CMO position continue to evolve? In the past, CMOs often focused on communications, reputation and advertising. While they may have been extremely strategic people, they weren't necessarily being asked to help drive strategy and growth for the company. Now, we have incredible insight into customers and what drives the growth of the company.” Join the discussion “ Marketing Hall of Fame Speaks: Bringing the Future Forward.” October 29, 2020 | 2:30 – 4:00 PM EDT. Talking the Future of Marketing with Ogilvy’s Shelly Lazarus
“ Brands are infinitely more important as we experience things digitally. With so much choice and availability, it becomes increasingly important that brands define themselves in a way that lets people make choices based on what they know about these brands. When you have a sea of 100 choices, there’s almost no way to edit, or to arrive at a group of things that you want to consider, without brands. So I think brands are more important than ever!“ Join the discussion “ Marketing Hall of Fame Speaks: Bringing the Future Forward.” October 29, 2020 2:30 – 4:00 PM EDT Visit https://bit.ly/32VhG7R to register.

Are CMOs being rebranded or released? | WARC

Seventy percent of Fortune 500 companies have a chief marketing officer, but the proportion is falling as businesses rethink the role, either scrapping it altogether or folding it into a new job title with a wider remit.

Keith Weed stepped down as chief marketing and communications officer at Unilever earlier this year and has yet to be replaced. At the same time, there’s a growing number of chief brand officers (P&G’s Marc Pritchard), chief growth officers (Coca-Cola’s Francisco Crespo) and presidents of brands (Beam Suntory’s Jessica Spence). Are CMOs being replaced? or is the position just being rebranded?

Seventy percent of Fortune 500 companies have a chief marketing officer, but the proportion is falling as businesses rethink the role, either scrapping it altogether or folding it into a new job title with a wider remit.

Why A Marketing Hall of Fame?

Baseball, Football, Hockey, Rock n’ Roll all have their Halls of Fame. These are famous institutions. Each celebrates greatness in their field with honors and festivities. Now it’s marketing’s turn. Marketers who do so much to create fame, not only for products and services but also for the footballers and musicians, do nothing to recognize achievement across the field of marketing. The fragmentation which has beset marketing—into TV and digital and social and direct and outdoor and so on —is reflected in a proliferation of specialty halls of fame. There is a direct marketing hall of fame, internet marketing hall of fame, network marketing hall of fame, and of course the Advertising Hall of Fame. But, there is nothing that recognizes outstanding contributions to the marketing profession as a whole…until now.
