Sisters Create “Body Inclusive” Event
In 2016, sisters Alexis (Lexi) and Alyse Scaffidi were watching the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and talked about how badly they’d like to participate in the event even though they are only about 5 foot tall. They knew they’d never meet the brand’s strict model criteria and decided to create their own fashion show that embraced “body inclusivity”.
The first DreamWalk Fashion Show was held on July 2nd, 2017 at Hill Theatre Studio in Paulsboro, NJ. The models, known as “Dreamers”, included over 20 women of all shapes, sizes, ages, ethnicities and sexualities.
The 2018 DreamWalk Fashion Show was held Sunday, November 4th at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. The 2ndannual event featured 65 Dreamers and various musical performers, including Zach Matari, Kicking Sunrise, and Owlcappella.
The 2018 event also included the first Dreamer Award, presented in memory of Andrea Castilla, who had been killed at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017. Although cut short, her goal was to create an organization that provided makeup to cancer patients undergoing treatment. Andrea’s sister, Athena, and her fiancé, Shane, accepted the award on her behalf.
The 2019 DreamWalk Fashion Show is slated to take place at Live Nation’s Gramercy Theatre in New York City on Sunday, September 15, 2019.
