The Devil We Know

The Devil We Know is an unforgettable film that we are thrilled to bring to communities and classrooms across North America. Unraveling one of the biggest environmental scandals of our time, it documents a group of citizens in West Virginia who take on a powerful corporation (DuPont) after they discover it has knowingly been dumping a toxic chemical - now found in the blood of 99.7% of Americans - into the drinking water supply.

Check out the trailer and let us know if you'd like to be the one to bring it to your community.

Partnering for Impact - UnionDocs Workshop

Media is a central tool for social change and filmmakers, activists and funders are working more closely together than ever before. Things can get tricky!

UnionDocs has announced a new day-long intensive workshop PARTNERING FOR IMPACT, led by Active Voice Lab Founder Ellen Schneider, that will outline how to ask the right questions when partnering with funders and organizations to support your work (and theirs!). Participants will come away with a solid foundation on which to build productive future partnerships through role-playing and candid interactions with a lineup of seasoned guest instructors including Leslie Fields-Cruz (Executive Director at Black Public Media), Michèle Stephenson (Director, American Promise), and Kirsten Kelly (Director, The Homestretch).

See you there? Register now: https://uniondocs.org/event/2018-03-10-partnering-for-impact/

This workshop is designed to bridge the communication gaps between documentary filmmakers and advocacy groups. Here, we will also synthesize ways filmmakers can continue to make the films they want, without sacrificing the money they want to make.

Commentary: The Queens of Hollywood united against silence and shame

We're slow on the draw to share this, but three cheers for Diana Whitten and her powerful piece in the Salt Lake Tribune. We're so honored to have worked alongside her on VESSEL; to have had the support of Film Fatales chapters from around the world for the films we represent, and to join together, in Whitten's words, "while Hollywood soul-searches," to "hire each other and work with men who understand alliance."

Over the past week, nearly three dozen women from Hollywood royalty came out against a seemingly untouchable titan, inspiring a ripe and nuanced conversation across the industry about accountability, complicity and the cultural expectations of working in film.

CARE Documentary

Tomorrow the House of Representatives may vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), restricting health care access for millions of our most vulnerable people. At Film Sprout, our minds are on the additional strain this would place on our flawed system of caregiving. Passionate caregivers often earn poverty wages yet families are already struggling to afford the care they desperately need.

Join us as we work to advance the national care conversation by hosting a screening of the documentary CARE. Learn more at www.caredocumentary.com or by contacting Denae Peters at [email protected] / 646-688-4488.

Care pulls back the curtain on the poignant and largely hidden world of in-home elder care.

Our team here at Film Sprout is proud to stand with transgender youth and their families in the face of the Trump Administration's efforts to overturn critical transgender student protections. We know we aren't the only ones! We are emboldened by the research we conducted in the wake of the From This Day Forward community screenings campaign which showed that 79% of audience members opposed "bathroom laws" and 100% supported the introduction of federal laws to protect transgender people from discrimination in all its forms. #ProtectTransKids
