When I was a young woman I used to tell myself a story.
If you stand in the mirror for too long, stare at yourself, you are bound to find flaws, imperfections, things that bring down your self-esteem but maybe aren't really there.
Or if you say the same word over and over it starts to lose its meaning.
As a young woman I would tell myself it was better to look outward, to help others, to see their problems and as a result my own would become lessened or less important.
This was before self-care became the mantra of my generation.
I still believe selflessness is a noble characteristic, value, and attribute but instead of quieting down my own self-reflection I blatantly ignore the judgment or critique of others.
Striding into the 4th quarter seeing myself more clearly and letting negative voices fall by the wayside.
