Alexander Pogrebinsky in 1970, the former USSR. It was around this time that Pogrebinsky became fascinated with yoga and meditation, a practice that was not much talked about in the Soviet Union, nor tolerated for its mystical and religious associations. Almost nothing was avaible on the practice in the Russian language, and only books in English or French were smuggled on the ancient art. Therefore to pursue his interests, in 1970 Pogrebinsky entered the highly exclusive Foreign Language Institute, where he became a Master of French, which allowed him to travel outside of the Soviet Union. #pogrebinsky #alexanderpogrebinsky #throwbackthursday #yogaintheussr #yogainsovietunion

This is the final painting in the triptych of the series "May There Always Be Sunshine." By Alexander Pogrebinsky. This painting bears the same name as the triptych. The triptych itself was inspired by the anti-nuclear movement in the Soviet Union and the United States. This color version of the painting has a small phrase painted by Pogrebinsky in Ukrainian:

"May there always be sunshine,
May there always be skies,
May there always be Mama,
May there always be I . . . "
