On August 14, a fire at Usdan destroyed two beloved studios in the Visual Art Department and caused additional damage to other buildings. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
As we mourn the loss of this beautiful piece of our history, we look forward towards renewing and reimagining.
I have been overwhelmed by your support. Through calls, emails, and social media, I’ve heard from community members of all ages across the country, and around the globe, asking how you can be of help.
Here is the answer:
What we need, more than ever, are the financial resources to repair the damage. While assessments are still underway, we know that we will need at least $250,000 to rebuild our Visual Art Department, upgrade our infrastructure, and ensure that we are able to offer every student at Usdan the space to grow and take risks, as we enter our next fifty years. With that goal, we are launching THE REIMAGINE FUND.
Usdan was built on the dream of young artists exploring their creativity and individuality in a natural environment. That remains our dream today.
I was awed as I visited the damaged studios to see that, through the charred remains, spiders had begun spinning webs and butterflies explored the new terrain. As the leaves turn brown and gold, I am confident in nature’s ability to renew and Usdan’s promise to inspire.
