The lockdown of the italian cinema.

The @museomaxxi spazio Extra, from 11 May to 6 June, and then the Cinecittà studios until 31 July 2021, will host the photographic exhibition by Riccardo Ghilardi.

The photographer explains "It was March 12 when crossing the empty streets I found myself passing the house of a dear friend, before a wonderful actor. I couldn't resist to call him to say hello from distance and exchange emotions. I took the first photograph, different from all the "comfortable" portraits I had been used to in my artistic career. This is how this idea was born. A "manifesto" of cinema that anxiously awaits, studies, prepares and can't wait to leave ".

This photographic exhibition tells about famous people from our cinema, places in Rome that have remained deserted during the first lockdown and some of the symbolic cinemas of the city.

Skira has published a book about this exhibition signed by Laura Delli Colli SNGCI's president, by the journalist Malcom Pagani and by Alberto Barbera, the director of the international exhibition of the Venice film festival, who said "In the time of the imposed enclosure, each of us relied on a certain number of rituals to limit anguish, occupy time, free the mind from the not too metaphorical chains that kept the body imprisoned inside the home: get busy cooking, gorging on films and TV series, seeking escape in chats or reading, going out to sing on the balconies. Virtual escapes, hypothetical escapes, tests of freedom. Like those that Riccardo Ghilardi documented with his camera, fixing emblematic moments in the lives of directors, actresses and actors grappling with the unpublished rehearsals not of a film, but of pure and simple survival"

The exhibition is organized by Camilla Cormanni for Istituto Luce Cinecittà, curated by Martino Crespi, created with the support of Mastercard, the support of the Cinema and Audiovisual Directorate General of MIC, Rai Cinema cultural partner.

Looks like big things will come in very small packages this summer, which is a great message-indeed!
@luisaviaroma - a must stop while in Florence - a shop I have been going to since my early days as a student in Florence.

In 1930, Frenchwoman Luisa Jaquin opened a small hat boutique on via Roma in Florence. Her husband slowly expanded the store by adding clothes and built his own factory to produce them. While still in college Andrea Panconesi (their grandson),became the visual merchandiser and flew to Paris on his first buying trip. In 1968 while in Paris, Andrea met Japanese designer Kenzō Takada and became the first store in Europe to carry his label Kenzo. From that point onwards, Andrea Panconesi has led Luisaviaroma.
The original store in Via Roma in Florence was renovated in 2008 using eco-conscious principles by Claudio Nardi.

Lovely to spend time with these two. @agriminelliofficial Andrea of course, the legendary flautist that I have adored my whole life. His music, enchanting.
His wife, enchanting as well. She shared with me the news of her bag collection. @rossanaredondo curates this collection of bags and accessories are all 100% handmade by the indigenous artisans of the Wayuu
community of the La Guajira Peninsula, Colombia. All bags are made of cotton and other fibres that are typical of the region, such as magüey en mecha and aipis.

Every single bag is different and unique and are easy to recognise for its colors and intricate designs. For making this traditional handcrafted crocheted bag it can take more than one month of work.

NYC’s Park Avenue, filled with tulips from 34th street all the way uptown.
Today,April 22 is Earth Day, celebrated since 1970 when o was still in school.
Still trying to learn- so many years later. I do feel lime this generation is making a difference!
As the 21st century progresses, our fight to protect our planet is becoming increasingly urgent. Last year, wildfires blazing in the Arctic Circle set new emissions records, the Atlantic hurricane season raged stronger than ever before, and we came to the end of the hottest decade ever recorded.

A recent study that attempts to quantify environmental damage revealed that 97% of Earth's land area may no longer be "ecologically intact," resulting in reduced animal populations and loss of species.

The theme for this year's Earth day is Restore Our Earth. As parts of the world start opening up after a year of Covid-induced lockdowns, the event's organizers are putting out a call for action and highlighting the importance of combating environmental destruction. (from CNN)

This year’s Oscars will feel very different. Sunday, April 25th the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony will once again broadcast this prestigious award show that began in 1929. The first award show was on May 16th 1929.
On April 25, 2021 we will once again share together this night of glamour, this year during COVID months later than usual—as Oscars are usually given out in early February.
We’re ready.

This year, the telecast will not have a traditional audience. The base of the show won't be the Academy Awards' usual home, the Dolby Theatre (though the Dolby is still a key location), but Union Station, the airy, Art Deco-Mission Revival railway hub in downtown Los Angeles.

This year, the producers pressed the nominees to attend in person, with appropriate safety precautions.

This year, Italy arrives at the Oscars with three nominations.
Best Song:  “Io Sì” written by Diane Warren and Laura Pausini, for: The life Ahead starring Sophia Loren.
While this recognition brought Warren to a career total of 12 nominations,  this is the first for Laura Pausini, who states: “for Italy, this is an honor…I’m happy to be part of this project because this is a project we made as a family”. The life Ahead, directed by Edoardo Ponti (son of Sophia Loren), centers on Madame Rosa (Sophia Loren), a Holocaust survivor and former prostitute, who now runs a daycare for the children of “working girls”.

The second nomination has been given to  film “Pinocchio” directed by Matteo Garrone. This film has received two nominations 1) Best Achievement in Costume Design to Massimo Cantini Parrini and 3) Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling Mark Coulier · Dalia Colli and Francesco Pegoretti.

1. Oscar night this Sunday, April 25, 2021
2. Oscar Carpet
3. All-star cast
4. Diane Warren nominated for “Io Sì” song
5. Laura Pausini nominated for “Io Sì” song
6. Sophia Loren in “The life Ahead” film
7. Federico Ielapi who plays Pinocchio in Matteo Garrone’s film
8. Roberto Benigni who plays Geppetto in Pinocchio directed by Matteo Garrone

Who does not love Italian Gelato?! In the United States now there are so many gelato shops including @gelatofestivalamerica in Los Angeles. Americans love gelato. Look and see who are named among the top gelato shops in Italia!

corriere.it has shared with us the The best gelato shops in Italy 2021 - according to Gambero Rosso: the excellencies from North to South!
Gambero Rosso is the food&wine magazine which also awards fine dining awards to top restaurants and wines.
There are 58 venues awarded with the prestigious recognition of the 3 cones 🍦 🍦 🍦 reserved for the best Gelaterie d'Italia that this year welcomes 4 new entries. Without forgetting the 4 special awards and the 37 master pastry chefs selected for the mention of the 'pastry'.

In the last 12 months gelato & ice cream have played a role that should not be underestimated. It was - and continues to be - more than sweet consolation in an extremely complicated period. A gelato at the end of the day has often become a family ritual or a simple way to delight and think positive.
The great ice cream makers, in front of the crisis, have spent their time into their laboratories to rediscover ancient and traditional tastes, bonding ties with pastry and chocolate, without ignoring experimentation.

We have selected for you 10 gelato shops chosen among the best for you from Milano Torino , Firenze, San Gimignano, Roma & Palermo.
All the ice cream shops mentioned are now open and for those who want a gelato subitissimo, they deliver! 😊
1. Gelato showcase
2. Gelateria D’Antan (Torino).
3. La Tosca Gelato d’autore (Torino).
4. Crema (Milano).
5. Ciacco (Milano)
6. Gelateria Dondoli (San Gimignano).
7. Gelateria della Passera (Firenze).
8. Otaleg! (Rome).
9. Stefano Ferrara Gelato Lab (Rome).

Happy Birthday @metmuseum!
This is the 151st Anniversary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The breaking news is that the fashion/culture event of the year: The Met Gala will return after cancelling last year’s event.
And Amanda Gorman is being named as a host.

The Met was opened to the public, for the first time, on April 13, 1870, and “located in the city of New York, for the purpose of establishing and maintaining in said city a Museum and a library of art, of encouraging and developing the study of the fine arts...”.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art presents over 5,000 years of art from around the world for everyone to experience and enjoy. The Museum lives in two iconic sites in New York City—The Met Fifth Avenue and The Met Cloisters.
At the Met, every day, art comes alive in the Museum's galleries and through its exhibitions and events, revealing new ideas and unexpected connections across time and across cultures.

Besides Amanda Gorman and the Met Gala, here’s what we all have to look forward to: https://www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/upcoming

The Medici Portraits and Politics: 1512-1570
Some of the greatest portraits of Western art were painted in Florence during the tumultuous years stretching from 1512 to 1570, when the city underwent the transformation from a republic with elected officials to a duchy ruled by Cosimo I de' Medici. Cosimo, who became the Duke of Florence in 1537, demonstrated a shrewd use of culture, adopting it as a political tool in his conversion of the mercantile city into the capital of a dynastic Medicean state.

2. The Roof Graden reopens with: Alex Da Corte (American, born 1980) has been commissioned to create a site-specific installation for The Met’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. The Roof Garden Commission: Alex Da Corte, As Long as the Sun Lasts will be on view from April 16 through October 31, 2021.

3. the Unicorn Tapestries at the Met Cloisters: The seven individual hangings known as "The Unicorn Tapestries," are among the most beautiful and complex works of art from the late Middle Ages that survive.

"It's Rome and it is Carbonara Day!

A Carbonara sauce is the most loved and desired pasta dish in the world. And for good reason.

According to surveys based data collected in Italy, this legendary Carbonara is the favorite pasta of one in five young people (18%).

Popular culture gave us our first vision of spaghetti alla carbonara in the Italian film with Aldo Fabrizi in 1951, La Famiglia Passaguai fa fortuna (Cops and Robbers).

Then, a few years later, Alberto Moravia tells about Carbonara in his Racconti Romani.(Roman Tales) a book of short stories, made into a film in 1955, directed by Gianni Franciolini.
Surely the flourishing Roman film industry after the WWII gave great visibility to this pasta dish making it a protagonist and popular all over the world,

#Diva

Here are the ingredients for your perfetto Carbonara:

Guanciale: pork jowl (cheek)
Pecorino cheese (better if Roman DOP)
1 egg yolk for each person
1 whole egg (every 3 yolks)
Salt and pepper
The recommended pasta to use is long pasta (spaghetti, bavette, bucatini, tonnarelli…)

This picture was taken in Via Giulia, one of the most magical streets in Rome☀️"

Buon appetito!

April Fools' Day, sometimes called All Fools' Day, is one of the most light-hearted days of the year. Its origins are uncertain. Some see it as a celebration related to the turn of the seasons, while others believe it stems from the adoption of a new calendar.
April Fools' Day is observed throughout the Western world. Practices include sending someone on a "fool's errand," looking for things that don't exist; playing pranks; and trying to get people to believe ridiculous things.

The Italians call April 1 Pesce d'Aprile. Italian children sometimes tape a picture of a fish on the back of their schoolmates, crying "Pesce d'aprile" when the prank is discovered 🐟
