The lockdown of the italian cinema.
The @museomaxxi spazio Extra, from 11 May to 6 June, and then the Cinecittà studios until 31 July 2021, will host the photographic exhibition by Riccardo Ghilardi.
The photographer explains "It was March 12 when crossing the empty streets I found myself passing the house of a dear friend, before a wonderful actor. I couldn't resist to call him to say hello from distance and exchange emotions. I took the first photograph, different from all the "comfortable" portraits I had been used to in my artistic career. This is how this idea was born. A "manifesto" of cinema that anxiously awaits, studies, prepares and can't wait to leave ".
This photographic exhibition tells about famous people from our cinema, places in Rome that have remained deserted during the first lockdown and some of the symbolic cinemas of the city.
Skira has published a book about this exhibition signed by Laura Delli Colli SNGCI's president, by the journalist Malcom Pagani and by Alberto Barbera, the director of the international exhibition of the Venice film festival, who said "In the time of the imposed enclosure, each of us relied on a certain number of rituals to limit anguish, occupy time, free the mind from the not too metaphorical chains that kept the body imprisoned inside the home: get busy cooking, gorging on films and TV series, seeking escape in chats or reading, going out to sing on the balconies. Virtual escapes, hypothetical escapes, tests of freedom. Like those that Riccardo Ghilardi documented with his camera, fixing emblematic moments in the lives of directors, actresses and actors grappling with the unpublished rehearsals not of a film, but of pure and simple survival"
The exhibition is organized by Camilla Cormanni for Istituto Luce Cinecittà, curated by Martino Crespi, created with the support of Mastercard, the support of the Cinema and Audiovisual Directorate General of MIC, Rai Cinema cultural partner.
