"THE BLIND NYMPH" at The 4th Wall Gallery
The 4th Wall Gallery is proud to announce the opening of The Blind Nymph, an exhibition of plush paintings by Chad Attie and Edel Rodriguez. The opening takes place on April 15, 2010 from 7:00 - 10:00pm, and the show will continue thru May 29. The artists will be in attendance the night of the opening.

CHAD ATTIE
Chad Attie was born in Los Angeles, California. In 1986 he received a Presidential Scholar in the Arts from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. He attended UCLA and Boston University and received a B.A. degree from Boston University in 1991. Subsequently he spent one year studying at Villa Rosa School of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy. In 1991, Attie returned to Los Angeles to work intensely on developing his personal painting style, incorporating ideas of Abstraction and Expressionism. His large-scale oil paintings soon became scenes of emotionally charged abstracted figures and landscapes.
Attie’s first solo show, was with Newspace Gallery in Los Angeles in 1996. He continued to show with Newspace until he moved to New York in 1998. Attie’s New York work continued to explore large abstracted figures on canvas. He had his first solo show in New York at Wooster Projects in 2004. The gallery had his second show of work in 2006. Attie’s paintings continued to evolve when he began merging images of his childhood into the work. Attie began showing in Chicago at Caro d’Offay Gallery in 2006. His work also has been shown at galleries throughout Los Angeles, and at the Museum of Contempory Art and at the Santa Monica Museum.Attie’s work has been the subject of various projects. Italian Vogue photographed Attie’s home, studio and paintings in 2005. A collection of Attie’s Journals were published in 2006, which were a compilation of 27 journals . In 2008 Attie was the subject of a film by Michel Comte which documented his painting process . In 2008 Attie was commissioned by Mini Cooper to create 6 paintings for their Creative Use of Space campaign. Mini Cooper is also publishing a magazine documenting the making of these paintings.
Throughout Attie’s career his work has been influenced by extensive travels to such places as Morocco, Russia, Burma, Vietnam, Japan, Turkey, and Cambodia. Many of the ideas in his most recent paintings have come from environments, textures, and objects that he has photographed or collected while traveling in these countries.

EDEL RODRIGUEZ

Edel Rodriguez was born in 1971 in Havana, Cuba. He received a B.F.A. in Painting from Pratt Institute in 1994 and an M.F.A. from Hunter College in 1998. Using a variety of materials, his work ranges from conceptual to portraiture and landscape.
His work has been featured in Print's 1998 New Visual Artists Annual and on the cover of the 2004 Communication Arts Illustration Annual.
