Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As you are all aware, between November of 2017 and August of 2018, the Company had wrongfully terminated 7 of our Local 1123 Brothers and Sisters. Throughout the grievance process, FSC management not only had zero interest in bringing our Members back to work, but also showed complete disregard for their careers and livelihoods. As a result of the previous managements unwillingness to work with our Local, each case and all grievances were denied and ultimately continued through Arbitration.

Over the past 31 months, CWA Local 1123 Stewards, Executive Board Members, CWA District 1 Staff, as well as Legal Counsel have worked through each step of the grievance process. They have also worked diligently on any and all of the New York state Department of Labor and New York State Unemployment denials, hearings, and appeals. This was done to ensure that not only would our unjustly fired Members have the best prepared defense as possible, but that they were also guaranteed their "Day in court", so to speak .

It is with my great pleasure that we can say that Local 1123 prevailed once again. Subsequent to our Member Tom Celi's Arbitration victory, the Company has now agreed to the settlement terms and conditions set forth for our 5 remaining cases. Shalon Burks, Rich Riccardi, and Bob Frateschi were able to report to work on Monday, May 4th, 2020, with Lawrence Reid to be returning in the coming weeks. Additionally, we have two Members who have voluntarily agreed not to return per the settlement agreement.

In closing, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to our Seven Members for having the patience and faith in not only our Executive Board and our Stewards, but also in our Legal Staff throughout this difficult time. I think we can all agree that It has not been easy. I am extremely proud of our solidarity as a Union, which speaks volumes to the support that this Membership has shown over the past two and a half years to our Brothers and Sisters. Having these Members wrongfully terminated because of the Companies unwillingness to listen to reason was troubling, to say the least. I think we can all agree, however, that in the end, justice was served. CWA Local 1123 was once again, Victorious.

Together we Stand!

Christopher Ryan

In case you missed it! We've come to an important agreement with Verizon on leave and pay policies in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

From CWA D1 Vice President Dennis Trainor: “We are all learning in real-time how to address the impact of COVID-19 on our health, on our jobs and the economy, and with all the uncertainty around what this means for our near and long-term future, having secure and flexible systems in place to protect the health of our members is paramount right now. We appreciate the cooperative and constructive approach taken by Verizon as we negotiated these agreements. They demonstrate the importance of having a strong union that can work closely with an employer to do what’s best for the workers and the community. It is an approach that should be replicated by other organizations across the country which are committed to protecting workers during this perilous time.” #CWAStrong

Our healthcare workers are on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis, but our facilities are suffering from criminal shortages of N95 respirators, surgical masks, protective gowns, latex gloves and other protective equipment. This is wartime, but we're going to battle with no ammo, and our lives are literally in danger. President Trump has the power to make a difference by using the National Defense Production Act to its fullest extent to ensure that healthcare workers get the materials they need - sign the petition now to tell the President that we need action and leadership NOW: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/protecthealthcareworkers

Verizon Members:

There is a new program for management and non union employees called "Stock Together".

As a result of this new program, the Company notified us that the Discretionary Contribution program is no longer going to be paid out to managers.

This is important because Discretionary Contributions are part of the 2012 MOU.

The percentage of Discretionary Contributions that our members who were hired after October 28, 2012 received was equal to what management received. Since management will be getting 0%, this will affect our members in this group.

Following notification about the new program, the regional bargaining committee was convened and we had numerous meetings and conference calls regarding this issue and ultimately agreed to participate. We reached an agreement with the Company which will extend the Stock Together Program to our members.

For 2020 awards, employees who are actively at work on March 2, 2020 will receive an award of RSU’s with a grant date value as set forth below:

Full time employees who were first hired as a union represented associate on or after October 28, 2012 (“Pension New Hire”). Grant date value of 2020 RSU Award — $2,500

Full time employee who are not “Pension New Hires”. Grant date value of 2020 RSU Award — $500

Also, the company sent an email out earlier that has caused a lot of confusion. The last line of their letter states "The last profit sharing contribution will be made in March 2020 for the 2019 plan year." This is referring to the Discretionary contributions for those employees hired after October 28, 2012.
It is not referring to the Corporate Profit Sharing (CPS) award. There is no change to the CPS award that is in the contract.

Update of CPS award:

CPS award for Plan Year 2019 will be paid to eligible employees on March 6, 2020. Members can defer CPS Award to Verizon Savings plan (401k). Deadline to defer is February 3rd , 2020.

Absence Lump Sum payment will be paid on Friday March 6, 2020

RSU payment will be paid on Friday 20, 2020.

20,000 AT&T workers in the Southeast just walked off the job because of AT&T’s unfair labor practices.

Unfair labor practice charges have been filed with the NLRB because AT&T has not bargained in good faith, and has not sent representatives to the bargaining table that have the authority to make decisions.

At his funeral, a line of CWA members wearing red stretched for over a mile along the route to the church. Today, and every Thursday, we wear red to honor Gerry's memory and to show that we are united in the fight for justice for all working people.
